What does Assert Interesting mean?

If you write unit tests for your code (which you should), and you’ve used JUnit (which you also should), then you’ll recall that the Assert class has a set of methods for asserting that an object meets a certain condition. The assertion we are making with this blog is that what we post will be interesting. If it’s not, then we’ve failed our blogging unit test, and we need to try again. This blog is about software development from the perspective of two software engineers.

Who are you guys?

I’m Gerald. I’ve been programming since I wrote my first text-based adventure game in BASIC on my Dad’s IBM AT. It was a terrible game, had zero replay value, and I didn’t know how to use arrays yet. But it was fun to write, so I kept doing it. I’m a Java programmer, and an Apple user. I figure I’ve now angered 100% of my readers. My particular interests are in software design and the idea of software craftsmanship, both of which I hope to explore here.

I’m Dan. Ever since my parents sent me to computer programming camp when I was 14, I’ve been an awkward dork who likes to complain all day about everyone’s code, including mine. My hobbies include software engineering, clean code, game development and balance, and military strategy.
